Rep. Ilhan Omar expressed her displeasure at the election of Rep. Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker in an emotional way.
Omar began sounding the doomsday bell on Twitter when the Speaker gave in to a group of 20 Republicans in order to get their support, or have them vote “present.”
“McCarthy just agreed to a deal with far right insurrectionists that would hold the entire US and global economy hostage to extreme cuts to everything from housing to education, healthcare, Social Security and Medicare. Hard to overstate how dangerous this is,” she said.

She made an encouraging display of bipartisanship by indicating her intention to collaborate with moderate Republicans in order to vote against Speaker McCarthy’s proposed rules package.
“This would mean once the Speaker is elected, the rule package the Freedom Caucus negotiated fails and a rules package that doesn’t have any of the concessions passes. Tune in at 10pm to find out how this saga ends,” she said.
Omar’s comments sparked a huge stir and received harsh condemnation.
“Dangerous freedom > peaceful slavery,” stated the Hodge twins.
“Is it as dangerous as marrying your brother?” Tim Young, a comedian, stated.
“Democrats just pushed through a $1.7 Trillion Omnibus Bill, and you’re worried about spending more money already. Sounds like that deal was needed!” Vic DeGrammont, a Florida Republican running for the House, stated
Kevin McCarthy, a Republican from California, was elected successfully as the newly designated Speaker of the House majority after a dramatic and anxious evening of voting. Matt Gaetz’s first “present” vote cost him the election by one, but McCarthy was ultimately duly chosen to head the GOP in this new age.
“It took a loss by a razor-thin margin in a late-night Round 14, a heated exchange with one of his sternest opponents, and a near-adjournment of the House till Monday to break a logjam unseen since before the Civil War,” The results of the 15th round of voting were reported by the Associated Press.
“The final tally that put him over the top: 216 for McCarthy, 212 for Democrat leader Hakeem Jeffries and 6 simply ‘present,’” the outlet reported.
When the video of his first “present” at a virtual House floor went viral online on Friday, it revealed escalating tensions between members of Congress about how to manage distant business activities. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Rep. Matt Gaetz engaged in a passionate discussion.
The newswire added the following:
McCarthy entered the chambers late in the day on Friday with high expectations after obtaining 15 votes during the day. He then attempted one last appeal. He was ready to overcome conservative resistance thanks to his steadily growing lead and assume the office of house speaker without any further fight.
One vital vote short of the House majority was all that stood between Rep. X’s program succeeding or failing, which was a shocking defeat. Only 216 of his fellow colleagues, including Boebert and Gaetz, gave “present” votes, resulting in the outcome.
An exhilarating scenario that had onlookers on the edge of their seats was taking place on the House floor. A contentious debate between McCarthy and Gaetz was followed by surprise backtracking as votes were hastily offered and then withdrawn once again. It turned out to be quite a show!
Republicans praised the drama and tension for being required to reach a more advantageous power-sharing agreement with Minority Leader McCarthy.
“This is a really good rules package, and it’s good that we negotiated this for our system of government, and it’s great for the American people,” Rep. Claudia Tenney remarked (R-N.Y.). “If we’re going to have self-government, we’ve got to show this” to the public.”
Rep. Gaetz has encountered hostility from members of his own party as a result of refusing to endorse House Minority Leader McCarthy; even ardent loyalists disagree with the choice.
“I disagree with his position” of not endorsing McCarthy. “But that’s OK. We’re still going to be friends tomorrow after this is all said and done,” she said.
“There’s a point in time where you’ve got to give up on your position — after getting everything you want. … At that point, you’re not really negotiating. You’re more of a hostage-taker,” she noted further.
On Friday, Congressman Gaetz threatened to resign if moderate Republicans and Democrats came to an agreement to choose Representative Jeffries of New York as their leader or support the nomination of Representative McCarthy despite the objections of House conservatives.
Adam Putnam, a Republican representative from Florida, is optimistic that Jeffries would get the support of all 212 Democrats and replace Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House despite early skepticism.
Wasn’t this incestuous looney toon supposed to be fired?
