A campus debate over political and religious freedoms at the University of Michigan took a disturbing turn Sunday when a female student allegedly launched a physical attack on conservative Jewish activist Liz Benichou, knocking her to the ground before making an alarming threat as police took her into custody.
The confrontation, captured on video and widely circulated across social media, has sparked renewed discussion about political hostility on American college campuses and the increasingly volatile atmosphere surrounding disagreements over controversial issues.
The incident occurred November 1 during a free-speech event at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Benichou, who was participating in campus interviews and discussions with students, found herself at the center of a heated exchange that quickly escalated beyond a verbal disagreement.
Independent journalist Cam Higby shared footage of the confrontation on X, describing the alleged assailant as a supporter of Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.
