An ordinary Egyptian farmer had no idea he was standing above a piece of history that had remained hidden for more than 3,000 years.
What began with an unusual stone discovered on private property quickly turned into a major archaeological investigation.
By the time excavation crews finished their initial work, they had uncovered fragments of two enormous statues believed to represent Ramses II, one of the most powerful rulers in ancient Egyptian history.
