President Donald Trump has delivered a forceful warning to California election officials as his administration intensifies its effort to verify the citizenship status of thousands of people who reportedly received mail-in ballots ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
The confrontation has escalated into a federal court battle, putting the administration on a collision course with California’s Democratic leadership over election security, voter eligibility and the limits of federal authority.
Trump took to Truth Social on Friday to share a Justice Department warning directed at Los Angeles County officials. His message left little room for ambiguity about the consequences he believes could await those who knowingly facilitate unlawful voting.
“They will all go to jail for a long period of time!!!” Trump wrote.
