Florida’s closely watched U.S. Senate contest is drawing increased attention as Republican incumbent Ashley Moody and Democratic nominee Angie Nixon prepare for the November 3 election. Recent surveys show Moody ahead by varying margins, putting the spotlight on voter turnout, competing policy agendas, and the growing ideological divide between the candidates.
The race is particularly significant because Florida has moved increasingly toward Republicans in recent elections. Nixon, a self-described democratic socialist, is attempting to challenge that political trajectory, while Moody is campaigning on her record in law enforcement, immigration enforcement, and conservative governance.
Polls Show Moody Ahead, but the Margin Varies
Several recent surveys have measured Moody leading Nixon, although the size of the gap depends on the pollster and the voters surveyed.
The RealClearPolling average covering September 8 through October 9 placed Moody at 49.5% and Nixon at 42.5%, a seven-point difference. An NBC 6/Mason-Dixon poll conducted September 28 through October 1 reported Moody receiving 50% support compared with Nixon’s 40%.
