Pentagon Breaks Silence on Downed Chopper

The U.S. military is pushing back hard against reports from Iranian state media claiming that an American Navy helicopter crashed into the Red Sea after declaring an emergency near Saudi Arabia.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) rejected the reports Tuesday, saying there was no crash and that American military personnel and aircraft operating throughout the Middle East remain safe and accounted for.

“Reports of a downed U.S. Navy helicopter in the Red Sea are not true,” the command said Tuesday.

“All U.S. military aircraft and personnel across the Middle East are safe and accounted for,” CENTCOM added, directly rejecting the reports being circulated by Iranian outlets.
