Vance Flies to Alaska as One Senate Seat Gets Tight

Vice President JD Vance traveled to Alaska Monday for a high-profile campaign appearance with Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan, underscoring the growing importance of the state’s Senate contest as both parties fight over control of the chamber.

Sullivan, a two-term Republican, is seeking another six-year term against former Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola. Although Alaska has long been considered favorable territory for Republicans, the race has become increasingly competitive as voters weigh affordability, energy costs and the candidates’ records in Washington.

Vance acknowledged the competitiveness of the contest before leaving Washington.
