Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has spent months pushing back against speculation that he could abandon the Democratic Party. But a remarkable slip of the tongue at a public appearance has given that debate fresh momentum.
During a question-and-answer session at the Texas Tribune Festival on September 26, Fetterman was asked why he had not chosen to become an independent. His response immediately caught the audience’s attention.
“Because I’m a lifelong Republican,” Fetterman blurted out.
The remark prompted laughter, and the Pennsylvania senator quickly corrected himself after someone pointed out the mistake.
