President Donald Trump’s increasingly contentious relationship with major news organizations took another turn over the weekend after CNN was excluded from its scheduled television-pool assignment aboard Air Force One.
The dispute unfolded Saturday as Trump traveled to Tennessee to attend the highly anticipated college football matchup between Texas and Tennessee at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. CNN had originally been designated to provide television-pool coverage for the presidential trip.
That plan changed after White House guidance issued Friday night removed CNN from the traveling media contingent. In its place, conservative outlet Real America’s Voice was listed for the assignment.
The move immediately drew attention because CNN’s role was part of a longstanding arrangement among the major television networks that regularly rotate responsibility for covering presidential movements when limited space prevents every news organization from participating directly.
