Millions of American retirement savers could now have an unexpected financial connection to Elon Musk’s SpaceX — even if they never personally decided to invest in the company.
SpaceX’s arrival on the Nasdaq-100 has expanded its reach into investment funds that track the major technology-heavy index. That means some Americans may now own SpaceX indirectly through retirement plans and other investment vehicles.
The development is particularly notable because it comes amid an increasingly heated political fight over Musk’s enormous fortune.
One of the loudest critics has been Sen. Bernie Sanders, the Vermont independent whose long-standing embrace of socialist policies has made him one of the most recognizable figures on the American left.
