New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing a deeply personal backlash ahead of one of the most solemn dates on the city’s calendar.
With the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks approaching, a campaign backed by relatives of 9/11 victims is calling for Mamdani to stay away from the annual ceremony at Ground Zero.
The effort has attracted tens of thousands of signatures and set up a confrontation over whether the mayor should be present when families gather to remember the nearly 3,000 people killed in the attacks and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
