Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent did not mince words when discussing Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s criticism of the Treasury Department’s recent currency transaction with Japan.
During an appearance on CNBC, Bessent directly challenged Warren’s understanding of the operation, arguing that the Massachusetts Democrat had confused a foreign-exchange transaction with a conventional government loan.
The exchange is notable because Warren is one of Congress’s most prominent voices on banking, financial regulation and consumer protection. She currently serves on the Senate Finance Committee and is the ranking member of the Senate Banking Committee.
