The debate over the Second Amendment often paints Florida and Illinois as ideological opposites. One state has moved aggressively to protect the rights of lawful gun owners, while the other has embraced some of the toughest gun restrictions in the country.
But when the discussion turns from legislation to violent crime, newly released homicide figures raise an uncomfortable question for the gun-control movement: Why is Chicago experiencing dramatically more murders than three major Florida cities combined?
According to a comparison released by the Major Cities Chiefs’ Association examining the first six months of 2026 against the same period in 2025, Chicago recorded 211 homicides during the first half of this year.
