Top Democrat Wants 4 New Supreme Court Seats

For years, progressives have floated the idea of reshaping the U.S. Supreme Court. Now, one Democrat senator is once again making the case for dramatically expanding the nation’s highest court if Democrats regain full control of Washington.

Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) recently renewed his push to increase the size of the Supreme Court, arguing that adding four new justices would reverse what he views as an unfair conservative advantage on the bench. His proposal would only become possible under a future scenario in which Democrats control both the White House and the U.S. Senate.

Speaking during an appearance on MS-NOW, Markey said Republicans gained an enduring advantage through past Supreme Court confirmations and argued that expanding the Court is the quickest way to change its ideological makeup.
