Judge Drops Hard Truth in Karmelo Anthony Case

Judge John Roach Jr., the presiding judge in the closely watched murder trial out of Collin County, Texas, has spoken publicly for the first time since the case reached its conclusion earlier this week. His comments come as the verdict in the case of Karmelo Anthony continues to draw attention across Texas and beyond.

The trial centered on the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a track meet in Frisco, Texas on April 2, 2025. Anthony, who was 17 at the time of the incident, was ultimately convicted of first-degree murder. After hearing the evidence presented in court, the jury rejected the defense’s claim of self-defense and instead returned a guilty verdict. Anthony was subsequently sentenced to 35 years in prison, closing a case that had drawn intense public scrutiny from the very beginning.

Now, stepping forward after the trial’s conclusion, Judge Roach addressed the outcome and the jury’s role in reaching their decision. When asked directly whether the jurors reached the correct verdict, he offered a firm response.
