Pratt’s Lead Vanishes After Late LA Count

A fresh wave of ballot counting in the closely watched Los Angeles mayoral race has narrowed the gap between candidates once again, raising new questions about the ongoing tally as hundreds of thousands of ballots remain uncounted.

A recent update from Saturday showed Democratic City Councilwoman Nithya Raman closing in on media personality Spencer Pratt, shrinking his lead to just about 1%, with roughly 200,000 ballots still left to be processed. The shifting numbers have intensified scrutiny of California’s extended ballot counting system, particularly the large volume of mail-in ballots that continue to arrive and be included after Election Day.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has already been projected to advance to the November runoff, as no candidate is expected to clear the 50% threshold required to win outright. Under the city’s rules, the top two vote-getters move forward to the general election runoff regardless of the margin separating other contenders.

Following the latest Saturday update, Pratt’s lead over Raman has narrowed to just 7,494 votes—approximately 1.1% of the total ballots counted so far. With nearly 200,000 ballots still outstanding, the final outcome remains uncertain and heavily dependent on how those remaining votes are distributed.
