Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has sparked a wave of debate after making a statement that critics say accidentally revealed the long-term ambitions behind the push for government-run healthcare.

At the center of the controversy is a short but striking declaration she made during remarks on healthcare reform:
“Presidents come and go,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez declared. “Single-payer is forever.”
Supporters of single-payer systems see that as a promise of stability and universal coverage. But critics argue the wording exposes a deeper reality: once established, a government-run healthcare system becomes extremely difficult—if not politically impossible—to reverse.
