The NASCAR community is still reeling after the shocking death of veteran driver Kyle Busch, and a deeply personal story shared by Dale Earnhardt Jr. has added another emotional layer to an already heartbreaking loss.
Busch, a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and one of the sport’s most recognizable figures, died unexpectedly at age 41 after suffering a severe medical emergency. What makes the tragedy even harder to process is how normal life seemed just hours before everything changed.
According to Earnhardt, the two racing icons were exchanging text messages less than a day before Busch’s passing, discussing plans for future races and preparations for the upcoming season.
There was no indication that their conversation would become the final exchange between two longtime friends connected by a lifetime in motorsports.
Speaking publicly about those final messages, Earnhardt revealed that Busch was actively making plans and looking ahead to getting back behind the wheel.
“I was texting with him the day before he passed away about getting together this Thursday to bring his seat for his late model over to my shop,” Earnhardt said.
