Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth delivered a forceful message to graduating cadets at West Point last week, and it quickly became one of the most talked-about military speeches of the year.
But while future Army officers applauded the speech on the grounds of the U.S. Military Academy, the hosts of ABC’s The View reacted very differently days later.
That response may have backfired in spectacular fashion.
Speaking before the graduating Class of 2026 at Michie Stadium, Hegseth stood before thousands of cadets and their families and delivered a blunt assessment of what he believes America’s military should focus on moving forward.
The former Army officer, who graduated from Princeton through the ROTC program and later earned two Bronze Stars during deployments to Guantanamo Bay, Iraq, and Afghanistan, argued that military readiness must come before political trends.
“You are not an army of one. You are certainly not an army of woke.”
The statement immediately drew cheers from the audience.
