Another disturbing security threat has struck the nation’s highest court.
Authorities confirmed that Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett became the target of a dangerous swatting attempt Wednesday night, adding to a growing list of threats directed at conservative members of the Supreme Court.
Fortunately, the incident ended without injuries. But it once again highlights the increasingly hostile political climate surrounding America’s judiciary.
According to officials in Fairfax County, Virginia, police received a report late Wednesday evening that immediately raised concerns.
“Yesterday evening at approximately 9:02 p.m., officers responded to a swatting call at the residence of a U.S. Supreme Court Justice in Fairfax County,” county police said in a statement.
Law enforcement moved quickly after receiving the report. Officers coordinated with Supreme Court Police assigned to Barrett’s residence and rapidly determined that the emergency was entirely fabricated.
Officials stressed that the false report was identified before a major response was necessary.
