President Donald Trump may be on the verge of securing one of the most consequential foreign policy agreements of his presidency.

After days of mounting speculation, diplomatic maneuvering, and growing signs that negotiations are nearing the finish line, Trump announced Friday that he was heading into the White House Situation Room to make what he called a “final determination” regarding a potential agreement with Iran.
The announcement immediately sparked attention in Washington and across the Middle East, where officials have been working behind the scenes to prevent a wider regional conflict while addressing concerns over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
Unlike previous administrations that pursued negotiations through lengthy concessions and financial incentives, Trump signaled that any agreement bearing his signature would come with strict conditions and zero ambiguity.
The president laid out key elements of what he expects Iran to accept if peace is to move forward.
Among the most significant demands are the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, and the complete abandonment of Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons capabilities.
