Feds Swarm Dam After Underwater Bomb Discovery

Federal authorities swarmed an Alabama reservoir this week after divers made a chilling discovery at the base of a major dam that supplies drinking water to thousands of residents.

What began as a routine maintenance operation quickly escalated into a full-scale security response involving local deputies, bomb technicians, and federal agencies after workers uncovered what officials described as a “grenade-type IED” hidden underwater near critical infrastructure.

The alarming incident unfolded at the Converse Reservoir in Mobile County, where contractors were conducting underwater inspections and repair work on the dam system connected to Big Creek Lake. Divers reportedly spotted the suspicious object submerged near the structure and immediately alerted authorities.

Within minutes, emergency crews locked down the area as bomb disposal experts rushed to the scene.

Officials later confirmed the device was carefully removed from the water and transported to a secure location, where it was safely detonated away from nearby homes and infrastructure. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

But the discovery raised terrifying questions.
