Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a strong signal to American business leaders traveling with President Donald Trump, indicating that China intends to further open its markets to U.S. companies. The high-level remarks came during a closely watched diplomatic and economic engagement that included some of the most powerful executives in global industry and unfolded amid rising geopolitical tension.
According to a report from state-backed Xinhua, Xi emphasized the long-running economic relationship between the two nations and framed it as mutually beneficial. The outlet stated: “Xi said that U.S. companies are deeply involved in China’s reform and opening up, and both sides have benefited from this,” according to a report from state-backed newspaper Xinhua.
Xi also reinforced the message that Beijing intends to continue expanding access for foreign firms. “Noting that China’s door will only open wider, Xi said China welcomes the United States to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation with China and expressed belief that U.S. companies will enjoy even broader prospects in China,” the report added.
The meeting carried significant symbolic weight, as Trump brought along a delegation of top American corporate leaders. Among them were Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Apple CEO Tim Cook. Trump personally introduced each executive to Xi during the visit, underscoring the economic focus of the trip.
