Trump’s 4 Words to Xi Stun Beijing

The president then stunned many viewers by speaking directly to Xi in unusually personal terms, describing the Chinese leader as both a respected counterpart and a friend.

“I can say, in the United States, people aren’t talking about anything else,” Trump continued. “But, it’s an honor to be with you, it’s an honor to be your friend, and the relationship between China and the USA is going to be better than ever before. Thank you very much.”

The remarks instantly fueled reaction online, with supporters praising Trump’s ability to engage America’s top adversaries directly while still projecting confidence about U.S. economic leverage.

At the center of the talks was the future of economic cooperation between Washington and Beijing. Xi reportedly attempted to reassure American corporate leaders that China remains open for business and intends to expand opportunities for foreign investment.

According to China’s state-backed Xinhua News Agency, Xi told executives that American businesses have played a major role in China’s economic development and that deeper cooperation could benefit both nations moving forward.

“Xi said that U.S. companies are deeply involved in China’s reform and opening up, and both sides have benefited from this,” the report stated.

“Noting that China’s door will only open wider, Xi said China welcomes the United States to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation with China and expressed belief that U.S. companies will enjoy even broader prospects in China,” the report added.

Trump did not arrive alone. In what appeared to be a carefully orchestrated show of economic power, the president brought some of the biggest names in American business directly into the negotiations.

Among the executives attending the summit were Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, and Tim Cook. Trump reportedly introduced each executive to Xi individually during the meeting.

Chinese media later emphasized that the American executives expressed strong interest in continuing to expand operations inside China despite growing global tensions between the two economic superpowers.

“The U.S. entrepreneurs said that they attach great importance to the Chinese market, and hope to deepen their business operations in China and strengthen cooperation with China,” the newspaper reported.

The White House later echoed the positive tone surrounding the discussions and hinted at possible breakthroughs involving trade access and investment opportunities.

“The two sides discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation between countries, including expanding market access for American businesses into China and increasing Chinese investment,” the White House said in a statement posted online.

George Chen, partner and co-chair of digital practice at The Asia Group, argued Xi’s statements should not simply be dismissed as political messaging.

“I think the statement Xi made about opening up is not just for propaganda. China does need to remain attractive for foreign investments,” Chen said.

But the summit’s most dramatic moment may have come when Trump stared directly at Xi and delivered what many supporters are calling a masterclass in negotiation strategy.

“I brought the 30 most powerful business leaders on the planet to these talks… and they all said yes. I didn’t send the second-in-command or the vice president,” Trump declared.

“I wanted the number one from each empire! Jensen Huang, Tim Cook, Elon Musk, and the other titans… the best in the world are here, right in front of you,” Trump added.

“They’re here today to pay respect to you and to China. They come hungry to do business, invest, and create. From our side, it’ll be 100% reciprocal,” the president continued.

The talks reportedly extended beyond economics and into major national security concerns, including Iran and growing instability in the Middle East. Both leaders reportedly agreed that Tehran cannot be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon and discussed the importance of maintaining open access through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping lanes.

Meanwhile, reaction continued pouring in across American media.

Speaking on Fox & Friends, co-host Brian Kilmeade suggested the summit could create major problems for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“It looks like he’s [Trump] saying, ‘We’re the two leaders, let’s find a way to get along.’ You know who’s having a really bad day and week or two weeks? Vladimir Putin,” Kilmeade said.

As the summit continues, global markets, foreign leaders, and political analysts are watching closely to see whether Trump’s aggressive dealmaking style can produce a historic breakthrough between the world’s two largest economies — or whether tensions between Washington and Beijing will ultimately prove too large to overcome.
