A federal judge on Wednesday moved to unseal a document tied to Jeffrey Epstein, ordering the release of an alleged suicide note that had been kept under seal in a New York court. The decision brings renewed attention to a case that continues to generate controversy years after Epstein’s death in federal custody.
The note was previously submitted as sealed evidence in an unrelated criminal matter involving Nicholas Tartaglione, Epstein’s former cellmate. According to reporting, Tartaglione claimed he came into possession of the handwritten document weeks before Epstein died in July 2019. The filing had remained out of public view until the court’s latest ruling made it accessible.
The emergence of the document traces back to earlier reporting that Epstein had been found injured and unresponsive inside his jail cell prior to his death. That incident already raised questions within legal and corrections circles about the conditions of his confinement and the handling of his custody.
Within days of the note’s existence becoming public through court filings, the document itself was released online and published in full, sparking immediate scrutiny and renewed debate over its meaning and legitimacy.
