For weeks, coverage focused on declining deportation totals and personnel changes involving figures like Kristi Noem and Greg Bovino. The narrative quickly hardened that federal enforcement had stumbled, with Democrats signaling that Minnesota had effectively resisted pressure.

But the raw numbers tell a different story.

Homan pointed to a sweeping operation that resulted in thousands of removals, including individuals convicted of serious crimes. Among them were violent offenders tied to homicide, assault, and sex-related convictions, along with known gang affiliates.
