A fresh round of polling is turning heads in Washington, as new data suggests Donald Trump may be gaining ground with a critical voting bloc just months ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
According to a newly released survey from The Economist and YouGov, the president’s approval rating among women has ticked upward over the past two months. While the increase is modest, political observers say it could carry major implications. Female voters have long played a decisive role in national elections, and even slight movement in their preferences could reshape the battlefield in tightly contested races.
At the same time, broader polling trends paint a more complicated picture for the White House. Across multiple surveys, Trump continues to struggle with overall approval, particularly among independents and even some traditionally supportive demographics. Concerns about inflation, the rising cost of living, and ongoing tensions abroad—including the conflict with Iran—appear to be weighing heavily on public sentiment. In many national trackers, the president remains significantly underwater.
Drilling into the numbers, the latest poll shows Trump holding a 35 percent approval rating among women, compared to 57 percent who disapprove. His overall job approval stands at 38 percent, while 55 percent of respondents view his performance negatively. The survey, conducted between April 3 and April 6, sampled 1,750 adults nationwide and carries a margin of error of 3.2 percentage points.
