Donald Trump Walks In… Washington Goes SILENT

The long-neglected centerpiece of America’s capital is now at the center of a political firestorm, as Donald Trump and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum move to restore the iconic Reflecting Pool stretching between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.

For years, visitors arriving at the National Mall were greeted not by pristine water reflecting American history, but by what many described as murky, stagnant conditions. Now, a cleanup effort backed by the Trump administration is underway, accompanied by sharp criticism of former President Joe Biden and his handling of federal landmarks.

Yet, according to Trump and his allies, it fell into visible decline during Biden’s tenure. Reports pointed to a maintenance backlog nearing $1 billion across the park system, including deferred upkeep on some of the nation’s most visited sites.

Despite the scale of the issue, critics argue that funding decisions under Biden failed to address the growing problem. In fact, deferred maintenance funding was reportedly reduced in his final budget year, further fueling concerns that essential restoration work was being pushed aside.
