“Just a Cyst,” Doctor Said… They Found Something Else

A disturbing medical incident in Canada is once again fueling debate over the country’s government-run healthcare system.

This time the controversy centers on a brain cancer patient who says doctors ignored a visible piece of surgical hardware pushing through her scalp. After waiting hours in an emergency room, she was told it was nothing more than a cyst and sent home.

Hours later, her boyfriend removed the object himself with tweezers.

The incident is now circulating widely online as critics point to it as another example of the long wait times and bureaucratic responses that patients say are becoming increasingly common in Canada’s healthcare system.

Brain Cancer Survivor Notices Something Wrong

Stephanie Faure of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is no stranger to serious medical procedures.

About 14 months ago, surgeons performed an operation to remove tumors from her brain. During that surgery, doctors installed a titanium plate secured with small screws to protect the area of her skull where the tumors had been removed.
