Texas Democrats’ freshly crowned Senate nominee, James Talarico, is under fire after an old social media post resurfaced in which he claimed his “white skin” granted him “immunity” from the so-called “virus of racism.”
Republicans and conservative commentators pounced on the remarks, calling them “peak woke” and warning that they could seriously damage Talarico’s chances in the November election.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wasted no time seizing on the post, declaring that the Democrat’s campaign is in trouble as his party attempts to flip one of Texas’ U.S. Senate seats for the first time since 1988.
“If this is a real Talarico post, he is toast,” Abbott wrote, emphasizing the political risk.
The Republican governor also drew a sharp comparison to Democrats elsewhere. “This is Tim Walz clone territory. He could win in Minnesota, but not in Texas,” Abbott added, referencing the left-leaning politics of the northern state.
