Vice President JD Vance pulled back the curtain Monday night on the moment President Donald Trump ultimately chose to authorize a direct military strike against Iran, offering a rare inside look at the decision that led to Operation Epic Fury.
Speaking during an appearance on Jesse Watters Primetime, Vance explained that the turning point came when American officials concluded that Iran’s explanations regarding its nuclear program simply did not hold up under scrutiny.
According to the vice president, the Trump administration initially pursued diplomacy in an effort to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions without escalating the conflict into a wider war. Those talks involved several high-profile figures within the administration’s diplomatic team, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio as well as senior envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Vance said the negotiations were carried out deliberately and carefully, with the goal of stopping Iran’s nuclear development through peaceful means if possible.
