In a striking break from Democratic orthodoxy, Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., publicly praised President Donald Trump’s recent military strikes against Iranian targets. On X, Fetterman wrote, “President Trump has been willing to do what’s right and necessary to produce real peace in the region. God bless the United States, our great military, and Israel.” His comments mark a rare moment of bipartisan support for Trump on foreign policy.
Fetterman made it clear he is not following the Democratic push for a war powers vote in Congress. Reacting to an Axios headline highlighting party criticism, he tweeted, “Committed Democrat here. I’m a hard no. My vote is Operation Epic Fury.” The senator’s position underscores a willingness to prioritize national security over party politics.
Later, on Fox & Friends Weekend, Fetterman doubled down, explaining his reasoning in detail. “You can just put out tweets and statements to support peace,” he said. “But to actually create real peace you have to do these kinds of actions just like what happened. Just like last year too when they destroyed their nuclear facilities. Sometimes peace is possible after these kinds of steps and that’s why I support those things.” He described Trump’s authorization of the operation as “absolutely correct.”
