House Speaker Mike Johnson praised former President Donald Trump and his administration this week, claiming that the country is finally seeing relief after what he called a “much bigger mess” left by President Joe Biden and his team.
In an interview with CBS correspondent Tony Dokoupil, Johnson outlined the state of the nation under Trump’s policies ahead of the crucial midterm elections in November.
Dokoupil cited CBS polling suggesting that Americans feel their wages are being outpaced by rising prices. Johnson countered, pointing directly at the Biden administration’s record. “We inherited a real mess,” he said. “The Biden-Harris economy was a disaster. We had the highest inflation in 40 years. We had paychecks were getting smaller, taxes were getting higher. We reversed literally all of that. Now, it takes a while to reverse that trend. You don’t flip a switch right after the election and it all just is fixed magically.”
Acknowledging that Americans still feel economic strain, Johnson emphasized that the president and congressional Republicans are actively providing relief.
