Once again, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — the darling of the progressive “Squad” — found herself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Instead of delivering a confident, policy-driven message on the world stage, critics say she leaned heavily into dramatic flair while struggling with the basics.
The latest episode unfolded at the prestigious Munich Security Conference, an international gathering where seasoned diplomats, military leaders, and heads of state debate some of the world’s most pressing threats. It’s a venue known for serious conversation about global stability. But what transpired during Ocasio-Cortez’s appearance quickly became fodder for viral clips and conservative backlash.
During a moderated discussion, Ocasio-Cortez was asked a straightforward question: Should the United States commit troops to defend against China if necessary?
What followed was an answer that critics argue did little to inspire confidence.
“Um, you know, I think that, uh, this is such a, uh, you know, I — I think that this is a, umm, this is of course a, uh, a very longstanding, um, policy of the United States – uh and I think what we are hoping for is we want to make sure that we never get to that point,” AOC said.
