A courageous Good Samaritan who attempted to stop the violence also paid a devastating price. The woman ran toward the chaos without hesitation, attempting to draw the shooter’s attention away from the wounded family. Her selfless act likely saved lives — but left her critically injured.
A GoFundMe page set up for the family described the devastation in heartbreaking detail:
“Paige and Cameron are a loving family who recently experienced a devastating attack. Both parents were injured, and tragically, their young daughter lost her life,” the family’s GoFundMe said.
The fundraiser went on to describe how deeply connected the family was to their community:
“Paige was our daughter’s nanny, and her little one became our girl’s very first friend. She quickly became a cherished part of our lives, caring for our daughter with warmth, love, and dedication,” they said.

Friends and neighbors emphasized the financial and emotional strain now facing the grieving parents:
“As friends and members of the community, we want to rally around Paige and Cameron to help ease their financial burden. All funds raised will go directly toward medical expenses, funeral costs for Harlow, and helping cover everyday living expenses, as they will be unable to work for the foreseeable future. This will allow them to focus on healing and remembering their beloved daughter,” the fundraiser said.
Another GoFundMe campaign was launched for the Good Samaritan, identified as Barb, whose injuries are described as catastrophic:
“As many of you know, our dear friend Barb was the victim of a horrific assault that occurred outside her house in Delta Township on Friday, 2/13, around 5:30pm. When she heard someone in trouble, she ran outside to help without any thought or regard for her own safety. A tragic scene was unfolding across the street, and she ran directly into the danger and saved two lives by distracting the gunman and taking his attention away from the family he was shooting at,” the GoFundMe page said.
The update delivered even more grim news:
“She endured severe trauma to her head and face, including bleeding in her brain. Emergency brain surgery was life-saving, but she lost consciousness on the scene and has not yet regained consciousness. We are waiting and praying so hard for her to wake up. She remains in critical condition,: the fundraiser said.
Authorities have since charged Banks with ten felony counts, including first-degree murder and attempted murder. According to reporting from CBS News, the suspect faces homicide charges, multiple felony firearm counts, and assault with intent to murder.
Eaton County deputies stated that the family was struck near Green Meadows and Farmstead Lane around 5:30 p.m. before the shooter opened fire. Law enforcement later located the suspect and took him into custody with assistance from the Michigan State Police.
A 3-year-old child is dead. Parents are permanently scarred. A heroic bystander is fighting for her life.
