MN Education: The “COVID Plan” Returns?

Minnesota students are once again caught in the crossfire of political theater as teachers unions push agendas that have little to do with education. After years of pandemic closures that set learning back by decades, these same unions are now exploiting a crisis to mobilize teachers—while children pay the price.

Minneapolis and St. Paul schools recently announced closures following an ICE operation in south Minneapolis that sparked protests. St. Paul implemented temporary closures with remote learning options, while Minneapolis offered remote instruction through February. Officials justified the decision as a “safety concern.”

But education experts argue the reality is far more political than protective. The federal ICE operation occurred nowhere near most schools, and social media footage revealed students participating in protests instead of attending classes. One student-led walkout even took place at the Minnesota state capitol.

Teachers unions appear to have orchestrated the closures to allow educators to flood the streets and protest federal immigration enforcement policies. Far from prioritizing children, these unions are acting as political operatives.
