What happened on a downtown Seattle street corner earlier this month is the kind of nightmare story that has become all too familiar in cities run by radical, soft-on-crime politicians. A 75-year-old woman is now permanently blinded in one eye after a violent, unprovoked attack carried out in broad daylight by a repeat offender who should never have been on the streets.
Jeanette Marken, a senior citizen who had just picked up a food order, was standing at a street corner near the King County Courthouse when 42-year-old Fale Vaigalepa Pea allegedly walked up to her without warning and launched a savage assault. According to charging documents and surveillance video, Pea was armed with a wooden plank outfitted with a screw protruding from one end — a makeshift weapon capable of causing catastrophic harm.

Video footage shows Pea approaching Marken and swinging the wooden club with both hands, striking her directly in the face with full force. The blow knocked the elderly woman to the ground as stunned bystanders rushed in to help. Emergency responders transported Marken to a nearby hospital, where doctors treated her for severe facial injuries.
