A deadly terrorist ambush in Syria has once again forced the White House to confront a brutal reality in the Middle East.
Two American soldiers are dead. Others are wounded. And questions are mounting about why U.S. troops remain embedded with foreign forces that cannot even police their own ranks.

American Soldiers Murdered in Inside Attack
U.S. Army Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres Tovar, 25, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard, 29, of Marshalltown, Iowa, were killed during what should have been a routine joint patrol near Palmyra, Syria.
They were operating alongside Syrian forces when the unthinkable happened.
