Christmas has always been one of the few times of year when communities come together around traditions meant to protect childhood innocence.

For thousands of families in Brantford, Ontario, that tradition was the city’s Santa Claus Parade, a holiday event that has brought smiles to children for half a century.
But one homeowner decided that spreading misery mattered more than protecting Christmas magic.
And police were soon forced to step in after a brazen attempt to ruin the holiday for kids backfired spectacularly.

Brantford held its 50th annual Santa Claus Parade on November 29, attracting an estimated 30,000 families along the parade route.
Parents lined the streets with excited children, many of whom still believe in Santa Claus, as floats and performers passed through the city.
