A tense exchange on CNN turned into a public relations disaster for former New York Times columnist Charles Blow after he attempted to smear conservative commentator Isabel Brown as “racist” during a heated debate over congressional redistricting. Instead of landing a blow, however, the longtime progressive pundit walked himself right into a fact-checking buzzsaw.
The conversation began shortly after the Supreme Court allowed Texas to move forward with its redistricting maps—maps drawn after Texas Democrats famously fled the state for vacation-like “resistance trips” to deep-blue states such as New York and Illinois in an effort to block a special legislative session. Brown argued that the Left’s racial panic routine was wearing thin, calling the attempts to inject racism into every policy dispute “really pathetic.”
She then highlighted the hypocrisy of Democrats condemning Texas while California quietly plays the same political games to bolster Democrat-held seats.
“Breaking news, a Republican state tried to create more Republican congressional seats under a Republican governor and conservative legislature,” Brown explained. “California is doing the exact same thing as a heavily blue state trying to gain more seats for the Democrat Party in Congress to represent California, which many people would say is probably the most blue it’s ever been, especially with the exodus of so many millions of conservatives leaving California under the reign of Gavin Newsom.”
