DOJ Drops BOMBSHELL in Texas Map Fight!

The battle over Texas’ newly drawn congressional boundaries took a dramatic turn this week after the Department of Justice delivered a major win for the state. In a move that surprised political observers, federal officials sided with Texas and argued that the Legislature’s updated map does not amount to an unconstitutional racial gerrymander—a ruling that, at least for now, keeps the Republican-favored districts on track for use in the 2026 midterms.

In an amicus brief filed Monday, Solicitor General John Sauer, speaking on behalf of the Trump administration, blasted the lower court’s earlier decision to block the map. He called on the Supreme Court to step in and overturn the ruling immediately. Sauer left little doubt about his position, writing bluntly: “This is not a close case.”

Sauer pushed back hard against accusations that the Legislature redrew five congressional districts with racial motives. He insisted the changes reflected political considerations—something the law allows—rather than any attempt to discriminate. By that logic, he argued, Texas stayed within constitutional bounds and federal voting law.
