A shocking development out of Florida and California has underscored what many conservatives have been warning about for months: politically motivated threats against right-leaning voices are spiraling out of control. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi revealed that federal prosecutors have now officially filed charges against a California man accused of threatening to murder conservative commentator Benny Johnson — a friend and ally of the late Charlie Kirk.
Arrest Follows Disturbing Attack on Conservative Media Figure
Authorities say the suspect, 69-year-old George Isbell Jr. of San Diego, was taken into custody last month after allegedly sending a violent threat to Johnson’s home. Federal officials plan to pursue charges in Florida, where the letter was received, adding a serious allegation of mailing a threatening communication.
During a press briefing, Bondi explained the gravity of the situation and the personal nature of the threat Johnson faced. She recounted how the letter arrived shortly after the shocking killing of Charlie Kirk — a tragedy still fresh in the minds of conservatives across the country.
Bondi shared Johnson’s significance in the conservative movement, saying: “Benny is a well-known media personality, carrying a message very similar to Charlie’s. Grounded largely in faith and love of country. Just days after Charlie’s assassination, Benny received a letter at his home where he and Kate are raising their beautiful, beautiful young family.”
