“I hate turkey, so I have a chicken recipe in my book,” she admitted to People Magazine.¹
And instead of simply roasting a turkey for tradition’s sake, Teigen has engineered a convoluted substitute that only Hollywood could come up with.
“We usually nestle two chickens together, they’re about four and a half pounds or so, to equal one turkey,” she explained.¹
Imagine telling your grandmother that instead of turkey, you’re “nestling chickens together in a bin.” Try explaining that with a straight face.
Because Legend’s extended family now joins them for the holiday, Teigen says two chickens simply won’t cut it anymore. So the operation has expanded.
“So we’ll usually do four chickens, two chickens nestled together in a little bin,” Teigen said.¹
Four entire chickens. Arranged in bins. On Thanksgiving.
All because cooking a turkey is just too much effort.
However, there may be a twist this year. According to Teigen, Legend recently splurged on some new equipment.
“John also just bought a smoker, so I feel like this year, he is going to take over the turkey duties,” she revealed.¹
So the man buys a smoker, and suddenly he’s ready to take on turkey like it’s a mission. If nothing else, that’s peak celebrity husband energy.
Thankfully, their side dishes sound somewhat normal. Teigen makes her mother’s scalloped potatoes, while Legend prepares his favorite mac and cheese — a dish that somehow counts as a “staple” in their home.
“Those are the things that are staples every single year,” Teigen noted.¹
As for Christmas, the family of six won’t be spending it at their Los Angeles home. Instead, they’re packing up and heading back to New York City with their children Luna, 9, Miles, 7, Esti, 2, and Wren, 2.
Teigen says their previous Manhattan Christmas in 2023 “just was so beautiful.”¹
She added, “It’s so easy, there’s so many amazing things to do, especially for our bigs, because we have two older kids and two little babies or two toddlers at least, and so just there’s the breadth of things to do here for all ages of children.”¹
Sure — nothing says “easy” like herding four kids under ten through crowded city streets in December. A real Christmas miracle.
Teigen also opened up about gift-giving in their home. You might assume a world-famous musician would want high-end gadgets or luxury items. Instead?
“It sounds dumb, but he really loves getting a beautiful silk robe or something,” Teigen said.¹
A silk robe for a multimillionaire. Very on-brand.
She continued, “He loves a man bag. It’s hard, because obviously, he is a musician, and I’m like, ‘Should I get him Miles Davis’s old recordings, or this?’ But, no. He’s a simple dude, and he likes really simple things.”¹
A “man bag.” Just say purse and call it a day.
But the most meaningful gift Legend gives Teigen each year is a photo book of their family memories.
“It’s almost like a coffee table book,” she explained.¹
“And it’s three inches, and it’s the most beautiful photos from our whole year. They’re just a bunch of cell phone photos, but they’re photos that are important to us and significant for us,” she said.¹
So yes — even celebrity Christmas gifts come down to cell-phone photos printed in a book.
