Adding to the bizarre nature of the story, then–Vice President-elect Kamala Harris was at the DNC headquarters that very morning — just feet away from one of the bombs. The Secret Service reportedly swept the area before her arrival, yet somehow missed a pipe bomb sitting out in plain view. According to reports, “Ten different Secret Service agents and two K-9 units walked past the bomb before Harris arrived.”
How does that even happen? Either the Secret Service failed in their most basic duties, or something far more troubling was going on behind the scenes. Neither scenario builds public confidence.
During congressional questioning, former FBI Washington Field Office Assistant Director Steven D’Antuono admitted he didn’t even know whether agents interviewed the people who first discovered the bombs. As Congressman Thomas Massie put it, that’s “investigation 101.” Even more suspicious, the FBI claimed that cellphone data in the area had been mysteriously “corrupted,” supposedly preventing them from identifying the suspect. But the phone carriers told Congress the opposite — the data was clean, and the FBI never raised any issue. Someone’s lying, and it’s not the carriers.
A recent House GOP report detailed shocking failures by law enforcement that allowed the bombs to go unnoticed for hours. Capitol Police failed to lock down the area properly. In fact, more than 40 vehicles and 10 pedestrians entered the DNC security perimeter while officers tried to handle the device. Incredibly, Nancy Pelosi’s motorcade was even allowed to drive through the scene while an active bomb threat was still in play. That’s not incompetence — that’s chaos.
Investigators also discovered that one suspect searched “pipe bomb DC” online after the bombs had been planted but before they were found, suggesting possible coordination or foreknowledge. Surveillance footage also caught a car matching the suspect’s description leaving the area after the device was placed. The FBI tracked the suspect’s Metro SmarTrip card and even identified the car’s license plate — yet still, no arrest. That doesn’t pass the smell test.
In 2023, FBI Director Wray told Fox News he had “total confidence” in his investigators and claimed they were “working very, very hard.” Yet years later, they’ve found nothing — while grandmothers who merely walked inside the Capitol rot in prison.
It’s clear where the Bureau’s focus was: punishing political dissenters, not solving a national security threat.
Now, even former FBI officials are speaking out. Dan Bongino, now serving as Trump’s FBI Deputy Director, said on his podcast that the Bureau already knows who planted the bombs but refuses to admit it because “it was an inside job.” Bongino accused the FBI of staging the incident to make Trump supporters look like would-be assassins, calling it “the biggest scandal in FBI history.”
Former FBI agent Kyle Seraphin confirmed the devices were inoperable, contradicting the Bureau’s claim that they were “viable.” The FBI’s own lab tests showed simple kitchen timers with no detonation backup — meaning they could never have exploded after 17 hours.
President Trump has repeatedly asked the obvious question: how could the FBI arrest hundreds of protesters within days but not find the person who planted real explosives? Republican leaders like Jim Jordan have demanded updates from Wray for years, but the Bureau continues to stonewall Congress and the public.
And perhaps the most damning detail of all — the bombs were discovered around 1 p.m. on January 6, right as the Capitol breach began. The discovery forced law enforcement to divert resources at the exact moment chaos erupted outside the Capitol.
Coincidence? Hardly.
Four years later, the American people are still waiting for answers. If this truly was the “most dangerous day for democracy,” why does the FBI seem determined to hide the truth about the one crime that could have killed people? The agency’s silence speaks volumes.
It’s time for accountability — and for America to finally learn what really happened with those January 6 pipe bombs.
