Democrats were hit with unexpected news this week when CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten revealed a stunning development: President Donald Trump is not only withstanding the political fallout of the ongoing government shutdown — he’s actually gaining ground.
Enten, appearing on CNN with host John Berman, referenced fresh polling from an AP-NORC survey that showed Trump’s approval numbers have remained firm, with a slight uptick, even as the standoff in Washington stretches into another week.
“Shutdowns are distinct during the second occurrence concerning Donald Trump,” Enten explained, making it clear that this political battle isn’t unfolding like it did the first time.
The CNN analyst drew a sharp contrast between the current shutdown and the one that rocked Washington during Trump’s first term. Back in 2018–2019, Trump’s popularity dipped quickly once the government closed. But this time, the data tells a different story.
