Schumer repeated the familiar Democrat narrative — that Trump has “weaponized” the Justice Department. He argued that U.S. Attorney Erik Seibert was allegedly removed because he wouldn’t go after Letitia James. Trump, however, made it clear weeks ago why Seibert was let go.
“I withdrew the Nomination of Erik Siebert as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, when I was informed that he received the UNUSUALLY STRONG support of the two absolutely terrible, sleazebag Democrat Senators, from the Great State of Virginia,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
“He didn’t quit, I fired him! Next time let him go in as a Democrat, not a Republican.”
Schumer’s comments echo remarks made by Vice President Kamala Harris during a Saturday MSNBC interview. Harris tried to frame Seibert’s removal as retaliation for refusing to charge James. She claimed Seibert “reviewed the evidence and decided that there was not enough facts to charge her with a crime.”
This coordinated messaging from top Democrats reflects an obvious strategy — paint Trump as a tyrant while deflecting from the very real legal trouble their own ally now faces.
During his MSNBC interview with Al Sharpton, Schumer went even further, painting Trump’s Justice Department as a political weapon.
“The Department of Justice, under every other president, Democrat or Republican, pursued the law and went after people who broke the law,” Schumer claimed. “That is what dictatorships do. That’s what tyranny is all about.”
The irony of Schumer’s statement is staggering. While Democrats accuse Trump of “weaponizing” justice, it was the Biden administration that launched unprecedented prosecutions against the leading presidential candidate, Donald Trump, through Special Counsel Jack Smith and partisan state prosecutors — including Letitia James herself.
For years, Democrats have used the courts as their political sledgehammer. Now, as one of their own faces serious federal charges, they are trying to paint themselves as the victims.
“It is just such a hallmark of tyrannical, autocratic dictatorship societies that they use the prosecutorial department as a political weapon. It is a disgrace, and every American, I don’t care if you’re Democrat, Republican, liberal, conservative, moderate people, should be forcefully rising up against this,” Schumer ranted.
This isn’t simply political theater — it’s a clear attempt to rile up their base, spark protests, and shift the narrative away from James’s alleged crimes.
Schumer admitted he spoke with James shortly after the indictment and claimed she’s “strong” and “resolute.” He insisted the case has “no basis in law or in fact,” and said he believes the charges will be thrown out.
But the facts speak for themselves: the indictment was brought by a federal grand jury, not Trump. It followed weeks of investigative work by prosecutors and financial investigators.
During the interview, Sharpton tried to help shape the narrative, pointing to reports that James’s mortgage fraud case involves property allegedly used by relatives rent-free.
Schumer responded, “I haven’t seen the specific factual affidavits and things like that, but yes, it was absolutely clear that they had no case, and one of them was fired because he wouldn’t do it— to his integrity, said, there’s no case here. I’m not going forward. Then they find another one. It is. It is just such a hallmark of tyrannical, autocratic dictatorship societies that they use the prosecutorial department as a political weapon.”
Schumer’s remarks calling for Americans to “rise up” come at a volatile moment in the country. With tensions already high, his rhetoric risks fueling more unrest from radical activists who have a long history of turning “protests” into chaos.
Democrats are desperately trying to rewrite the narrative. But no matter how loud their talking points get, Letitia James still faces serious federal charges — and the legal system will have the final word.
