California Governor Gavin Newsom just dropped another bomb on the state’s workforce — and this time, it’s Uber and Lyft drivers who could be paying the price.
In a move being hailed by Democrats as “historic,” Newsom signed a controversial law that allows ride-share drivers to unionize — a decision that critics say will do nothing but drive thousands out of work.
During a press conference, the governor claimed the unionization effort would “give them choice, give them dignity and a say about their future.” He added, “I say that because it needs to be said: I’m not naive about how people are feeling about their future.”
But for many, that future just got a lot bleaker.
