Noem Blows the Story Apart
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem appeared on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle and dismantled NBC’s narrative in one brutal fact-check.
“What they [NBC] did was absolutely lie to the American public,” Noem said. “What happened in that situation with that autistic little girl is that her father was a criminal. He was a criminal who had endangered children in the past, and then he abandoned her in the vehicle and ran off to protect his own freedom and abandoned his daughter behind. So those officers protected that little girl.”
The reality? ICE didn’t traumatize a child – they saved her.
The Criminal Father NBC Defended
The man at the center of NBC’s lie, Edward Hip Mejia, was far from the sympathetic family man the network portrayed.
According to DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, Mejia had “previous arrests for domestic abuse, strangulation, and vandalizing property” and abandoned his young daughter when ICE moved in.
McLaughlin revealed: “He ignored law enforcement emergency lights to pull over and drove back to his house. He fled from the car, gave officers the double middle finger, and darted inside his house. He abandoned his 5-year-old daughter in the car.”
This wasn’t a case of ICE targeting an innocent family. It was a father fleeing like a coward and leaving his disabled child behind.
NBC Forced Into a Quiet Correction
Once the facts came out, NBC had no choice but to quietly edit its story. The headline was changed to a watered-down version:
“Video shows ICE with 5-year-old girl while agents attempt to arrest her father.”
The network buried a correction at the bottom: “An earlier version of this article mischaracterized the activities of ICE agents in the video. The article has been updated.”
But the damage was already done. The original lie had spread across social media, repeated by other outlets. Just like clockwork, the fake outrage worked exactly as NBC intended.
A Pattern of Media Lies Against Immigration Enforcement
Noem warned that this wasn’t just one bad headline – it’s part of a bigger campaign to delegitimize immigration enforcement.
“The problem is that these networks are so sold out for a lawless country and a borderless country, and they’re so opposed to President Trump and what he’s trying to do to help America be successful and free and safe again, that they will do anything,” she said.
She added that DHS often has to issue “five or six press releases a day” correcting false stories about ICE, including claims that the agency deported U.S. citizens or tore families apart without cause.
In reality, most of the individuals ICE targets are violent criminals who pose a direct threat to communities.
Democrats Encourage the Propaganda
Democrat politicians have only added fuel to the fire. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has labeled ICE a “modern-day Gestapo.” Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett compared agents to “slave patrols.” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has even produced videos teaching illegal immigrants how to dodge ICE officers.
Their strategy is simple: use emotional manipulation and media allies to turn public opinion against immigration enforcement.
The NBC story was a textbook example – a fictional tale meant to stir outrage, while protecting a man with a record of abusing children.
The Real Heroes
At the end of the day, ICE wasn’t the villain – they were the ones protecting a vulnerable little girl.
Her father chose to run, abandon her, and flip off law enforcement while hiding behind the media’s lies.
And NBC’s fake news campaign proved once again that the establishment media would rather defend criminals than admit that Trump’s immigration crackdown is keeping Americans safe.
The American people deserve the truth – not propaganda designed to protect lawbreakers at the expense of innocent children.
