President Donald Trump is putting pressure on another Republican-led state to shake up its congressional map — and Democrats are already worried about losing yet another seat in the House.
Just days after Texas lawmakers approved their own redistricting plan that could hand Republicans as many as five additional seats, Trump’s allies are now turning their attention to Missouri. The goal is clear: cut into the Democrat stronghold and add to the GOP majority in Washington.
According to the Springfield News-Leader, a new congressional map for Missouri is being floated behind closed doors. Reports suggest the proposal was drawn up in Washington, D.C., but it hasn’t yet been shown to the public.
Jennifer Bukowsky, vice chair of the Missouri Republican State Committee, admitted this week she hasn’t seen the draft herself. However, she noted a special legislative session could soon be called once the Trump White House and the Republican National Committee come to an agreement on the boundaries.
