Representative Al Green, who has represented Texas’s 9th Congressional District since 2005, is finally out of office. After nearly 20 years of fiery speeches and partisan antics, Green’s district has been wiped off the map through new congressional redistricting approved by Texas Republicans.
Green wasn’t known for passing meaningful laws. Instead, he made headlines for his loud interruptions—most recently shouting down President Trump during his address to Congress in March 2025. For voters tired of theatrics over results, his departure marks a long overdue change.
Predictably, Green is furious. He immediately accused Republicans of racism, a tired line Democrats use every time they lose power. But the truth is, the only party guilty of racially manipulating district lines for decades has been the Democrats themselves.
In a press release filled with anger, Green claimed the removal of his district—along with TX-18, TX-29, and TX-33—was a “racist, unconstitutional scheme” supposedly directed by President Trump’s Justice Department and Attorney General Ken Paxton.
